Today, many of us use a phone for directions, but knowing how to read a map is still a useful skill.
A map also helps you to see the big picture, and the battery of a map never dies.
Start with the title and the legend.
The legend, or key, explains the symbols on the map, such as roads, rivers, and parks.
Next, find the north.
Most maps have an arrow that points to the north, and if you know where north is, you can turn the map to match the real world.
Then, check the scale.
The scale tells you how much distance on the map equals the distance in real life, for example, 1 centimeter equals 1 kilometer.
With this information, you can estimate how long a walk will take.
Finally, find your location and your destination, and choose a route.
Look for landmarks, such as a bridge or a church, to confirm that you are on the right way.
