Türkçede "aç" ve "açma" tek kelimedir. İngilizcede emir fiilin yalın hâliyle başlar, yasak için önüne don't gelir: Open the door. Don't touch it.

Türkçede "otur", "gel", "buyur" çoğu zaman nazik duyulur; incelik ses tonundan gelir. İngilizce inceliği bir kelimeyle gösterir: please. Başa ya da sona gelebilir.

- Have a seat.Buyurun, oturun.
Sit down tek başına sert duyulabilir; Please sit down ya da Have a seat daha naziktir.
