Can Trees Talk to Each Other?
Ağaçlar Birbirleriyle Konuşabilir mi?

In a forest, the trees seem to stand quietly and alone.
But scientists have discovered that they are connected, and they can share information and even food.
Under the ground, the roots of the trees are linked by a network of fungi.
These fungi form thin threads, which are thinner than a hair, and they spread through the soil for many kilometers.
Some people call this network the "wood wide web."
The trees and the fungi help each other.
The fungi get sugar from the trees, and in return they bring water and minerals from the soil.
Through the network, a big, healthy tree can send sugar to a small tree in the shade that does not get enough light.
Trees can also send warnings.
When insects attack one tree, it releases chemicals into the air and into the network, and its neighbors prepare their own defenses.
Some scientists still debate how much "communication" is really happening, but they agree that a forest is much more than a group of single trees.
