Why Is the Sky Blue?
Gökyüzü Neden Mavi?

Look up on a sunny day and you will see a blue sky.
Many children ask why, and the answer is surprisingly interesting.
Sunlight looks white, but it is actually a mix of many colors.
You can see these colors in a rainbow, from red to violet.
Each color travels as a wave, and every color has a different wave length.
When sunlight enters the air, it hits tiny gas molecules.
These molecules send the light in many directions.
Scientists call this "scattering."
Blue light has a short wave length, so it scatters much more than red light.
That is why blue light reaches your eyes from every part of the sky.
Violet light scatters even more, but the sun gives off less of it, and our eyes do not see it well.
As a result, we see blue.
At sunset, the light must travel through much more air to reach you.
Most of the blue light scatters away before it arrives.
The red and orange light is left, and that is why sunsets look so warm and colorful.
