Türkçe bunu "acaba … mi" ya da "-ip -mediğini" ile söyler; İngilizcede if ya da whether ve düz sıra. I wonder "merak ediyorum, acaba" demektir ve en sık bu kalıpla kullanılır.

if ve whether çoğu cümlede aynı işi görür; whether biraz daha resmîdir ve or not ile çok doğal durur. if ile or not yan yana gelmez: "if or not" olmaz. Cümle başında da whether gelir.
