The Pyramids of Giza stand near Cairo, in Egypt, and they are about 4,500 years old.
The largest one, the Great Pyramid, was the tallest building in the world for almost four thousand years.
The pyramids were built as tombs for kings, who were called pharaohs.
The Great Pyramid was made for a pharaoh named Khufu.
It is built from more than two million huge blocks of stone.
Some of these blocks weigh as much as a small truck.
For a long time, people thought that slaves built the pyramids.
Today, most experts believe that paid workers did the job, and they lived in a nearby town.
They received food, and they worked in groups.
Nobody knows exactly how they moved the stones.
Scientists still study this question, and every year they find new clues.
Today, millions of tourists visit the pyramids to see this ancient wonder.
