“Not at all”, “whatsoever”, “by no means”: olumsuzu güçlendirmek

"Hiç ama hiç fikrim yok." Türkçe "hiç"i tekrar eder ya da sesini yükseltir. İngilizce olumsuz bir cümleyi kalıplarla güçlendirir: at all, whatsoever, not a single, by no means.

1at all: en yaygını

at all olumsuz cümlenin ya da sorunun sonuna gelir: "hiç".

• I don't like it at all.

  Hiç sevmiyorum.
• Did you sleep at all last night?

  Dün gece hiç uyudun mu?
• — Do you mind if I sit here? — Not at all.

  — Buraya oturabilir miyim? — Tabii, buyurun.

Son örnekte Not at all bir izin ve nezakettir: "hiç sakıncası yok".

2no … whatsoever: resmî ve güçlü

whatsoever, no, none, nothing ve isimden sonra gelir. Resmî, kesin bir dil kurar.

• There is no evidence whatsoever.

  Hiçbir kanıt yok.
• I have no idea whatsoever.

  Hiçbir fikrim yok.

3not a single: tek bir … bile

single'dan sonra tekil isim gelir: Not a single person came. (Tek bir kişi bile gelmedi.) I didn't make a single mistake. (Tek bir hata bile yapmadım.)
