1Karar sırası
- Gerçek mi, hayal mi? Olabilecek bir şeyse if + present, will.
- Koşul ne zaman? Şimdi olmuyorsa if + past; geçmişte olmadıysa if + had + üçüncü hâl.
- Sonuç ne zaman? Şimdiyse would + yalın; geçmişteyse would have + üçüncü hâl. now, today, last year gibi kelimelere bak.
- Sonuç kesin mi? Kesinse would, imkânsa could, belkiyse might.
- Kısaltma varsa: 'd + üçüncü hâl had; 'd have + üçüncü hâl would have.
2Emre'nin hikâyesi
- Last year Emre got a job offer in Berlin, but he said no.Geçen yıl Emre'ye Berlin'de bir iş teklif edildi ama hayır dedi.
- If he had accepted the offer, he would live in Berlin now.Teklifi kabul etseydi şimdi Berlin'de yaşardı.
- He might have learned German last year.Geçen yıl belki Almanca öğrenirdi.

Türkçe metinde sonuçların hepsi "-rdi"; İngilizcede her biri zamanına göre seçildi: now ve today → would + yalın; last year, last summer → have + üçüncü hâl. Son satırda birinci 'd had, ikincisi would.
